Please READ the following questions and answers carefully before you register.

Who can register for the conference?

Any scholar who is interested can register. This means that you don’t have to be a presenter or poster session participant in order to participate in the conference. The opposite is also true: You must register in order to participate in the conference in any capacity—either to present your work or just to learn about the work of others.

How much should I pay?

The following table (hereafter “the Table”) presents the registration fees for ICLC 11, Xi’an. The category “ICLC member” refers to those who have paid their dues for the current fiscal year to the International Cognitive Linguistics Association. Membership will be verified jointly by ICLA and ICLC 11 after the closing of online registration.

Is there any assistance program that helps defray the cost of registration?

Yes. ICLA has agreed to help those non ICLA members who pay the registration with their own funds. This subsidy is set at 400 RMB for regular non-members and 200 RMB for student non-members. Hence, an eligible regular non-member (e.g. a faculty member of a university) will pay 1500 RMB before the end of May 5, 2000 RMB before the end of June 15, and 2400 on site (400 being deducted from the amounts shown in Row 2 of the Table). Likewise, an eligible student non-member will pay 700 RMB before the end of June 15 and 1000 RMB on site.

How can I prove my eligibility for the subsidy?

Since the only criterion for the subsidy is the paying of the fees out of your own account, without being reimbursed by your employer or another agency, the proof of eligibility is done by you not obtaining an official receipt from ICLC 11 that can be used for reimbursement purposes. Specifically, receipts are issued to participants at the conference. Those who do not take the subsidy will get an official receipt for their payment that can be used for reimbursement. Those who do will not get such a receipt.

What currency should/can I use?

Since the expenditure of the conference will be mostly in RMB, RMB is the best currency for the OC. Next best for the OC is the USD, the only currency that PayPal (below) sends funds in. Other currencies will have to go through two steps of conversion, hence losing value along the way. So, we strongly encourage participants to pay in either RMB or USD.

How can I register?

For participants who pay the registration fee in RMB:

1)      Click on the alipay link at the top of the page.

2)      On the alipay page, fill in the amount and, in the 注册人留言 Box, provide the category you belong in based on the Table above and indicate if you are taking the ICLA subsidy. For instance, if you are a student non-member and are taking the ICLA subsidy, type “Student non-member; ICLA subsidy taken.” If you are not taking the ICLA subsidy, provide your category only. Please do not write anything else on in this box.

3)      Click on a method of payment (either 支付宝 or a bank in China) and follow the instructions thereafter.

For participants paying in currencies other than the RMB:

1)      Determine your fee amount based on the Table and convert that amount into the USD if you can pay in that currency. If you cannot, convert the amount to your own currency.

2)      Click on the PalPal link at the top of the page.

3)      On the next page, fill in the amount you have determined in Step (1) and select your currency you are using from the pull-down menu.

4)      Click the Go to Paypal button, you will be on the ICLC 11 registration page, with jiangyajun@xisu.edu.cn at the top.   Follow the instructions thereafter.

How about other means of paying for registration?

You could wire money from outside China, but be mindful of the rather steep fee: It can be as high as 45 USD. ICLC 11 does not accept bank checks. So, if you register on site, the only way to pay the fee is with cash.

What currency should the cash be in for on-site registration?

While you can pay in your local currency when you register online, you would have to pay in the RMB on site. See "Tips for Your Trip" for the advantages and disadvantages of different ways of exchanging currencies.
